Weight Loss Surgery Support:
Daily Inspiration for August 8, 2010
Katie Jay, MSW
Designate a "default" meal.
There are times when you just want to eat the way you used to eat before surgery. It's hard to adjust to a new way of eating. And while sometimes it's pretty easy, sometimes it's not.
Find a meal that you can use as a "default" meal--the meal you always have when you are struggling. Find out what really tastes good and satisfies you, and is also good for you. Make this highly satisfying and healthy meal when you are having the most trouble. Serve it only on those occasions when you feel at wit's end. It will be your "ace in the hole."
Action for the day: Make a list of the foods and meals you love that are also good for you. If you have trouble identifying these meals, keep a log of healthy meals you have eaten for a week or two, and rate each one on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best). The next time you are having a particularly tough day, make one of the "10" meals.
