Daily Inspiration for August 15, 2010 Remember to kihap.
In the martial art of Taekwondo, students are reminded to kihap, or "spirit yell," with every move. Most people may not know the term, but they've probably heard the strange, forceful burst of sound that martial artists emit when they kick or punch. It's not done just to sound like Bruce Lee. The real purpose is to focus all of your energy into that one kick or punch. It focuses your mind, and calls up all of your energy for that one task. Obviously, you can't be going around your office or the local mall kihaping all day. But the lesson can be applied to your everyday life and tasks. Try focusing your full attention and energy on the task at hand. Action for the day: Reflect on recent times in which your mind has not stayed on task. With each new activity today, think of a simple statement--even something as simple as, "I am about to ..." in order to focus your energy on the task at hand. © 2007, National Association for Weight Loss Surgery.
